Conveyancers – Please Respond
PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS QUESTIONNAIRE IS NOW CLOSED

Dear Sole Practitioner
I should like to thank you for responding to the Questionnaire, the results of which can be found here, and to wish you a Happy and Successful New Year.

Some 4000 questionnaires were sent out of which you will see only 198 were returned, which I am told was a good result. Some 60 other responses were received from SPs who had ceased or did not undertake residential conveyancing.

The questions were cast so as to concentrate you minds on what is a very difficult question to answer; namely do you want me to try to persuade Council Members to support a rule change that would seek to prevent providers of legal services from acting for both lender and borrower by the Law Society making representations to that effect to Government and the Legal Services Board.

I have the feeling that some of you are fed up with Lenders generally but fear the loss of your remaining residential conveyancing, if there is a rule change, whereas others feel they can not continue acting for both parties as it is just not worthwhile.

There is now just the one question which you can answer by emailing me direct with a "YES" or "NO". The question is do you want a rule change regardless of any consequences?
