Solicitor Sole Practitioners Group

About Us
Who we are and what we do
Solicitor Sole Practitioners is one of eight Law Society recognised groups which represent particular sectors of the profession. The others are the Young Solicitors Group, Association of Women Solicitors, Commerce and Industry Group, the Local Government Group, Group for Solicitors with Disabilities, the Black Solicitors Network and the Trainee Solicitors Group.

Financial and administrative support is given to them by the Law Society. The reason is that members representing a minority in the profession or have greater difficulty in accessing the decision making process in the Law Society on matters which affect the interests of their members. In some cases the Committees of the Groups concerned at as specialist committees for the Council and staff to consult on issues which concern the members of the Group in question.

Solicitor Sole Practitioners has two aims.

The First is to represent the interest of their members within the Law Society and to ensure that decisions taken do not compromise or adversely affect the members of Sole Practitioners. Sole Practitioners Group also responds to consultations issued by the Law Society and in this way the expertise and experience of members can help to provide a broader and more informed view.

The Second is to support members through local groups organising, training, conferences and communicating through other means.

The Group communicates by Solo, published quarterly, and this website.
